My main question is, does anyone actually play Immortal or Deity consistently for fun? "Fun" for me means different options for my leader, an array of different, viable strategies, and a variety of map choices. People seem to only beat Immortal/Deity to get the achievement, or just to say they were able to do it. Like playing only Archipelago and exploiting the AI's stupidity in naval combat. Obviously people have beaten the game on Immortal and even Deity, but the vast majority of these seem to be Culture victories in very specific situations. I feel like I've reached the apex of my abilities as a player and the AI civs just get too many advantages.

From King to Emperor was the same thing, I simply learned how to play better and overcome the AI advantages.īut Immortal seems different.
But I kept at it, learning from my mistakes and constantly getting better at the game, until I could beat King consistently. All the other civs on my continent would suddenly gang up on me despite centuries of peace and I would get vastly overwhelmed. I still remember my first attempts at King difficulty, it was sort of similar. The AI civs just get way too powerful and I can pretty much tell by turn 200 that there's no way in hell I'm going to win. Suffice to say it has not been successful. Currently I can win pretty consistently on Emperor difficulty, so I've been trying to push into Immortal.
